(Doing a pose like standing splits at the wall requires more consciousness which in turn brings us into fuller presence. One of the most beneficial things about incorporating props into the practice of asana is that it lights up the dull places of our body and mind. This prepares the body/mind for the most advanced yoga - meditation. For this one it's a good idea to start with the hands further away from the wall. If your feet are sensitive you can place a towel between your foot and the wall.)
